Equipment Overview
- Equipment for producing automobile parts using a press-fitting machine.
- In order to prevent hands from being pinched during the press-fitting work, a light curtain is installed as a safety device in front of the press-fitting machine so that the process is stopped in case of danger.
Before Improvement
➤ A worker sets the workpiece on the press-fitting machine.
➤ When an operation button is pressed, the light curtain is activated to secure the safety and press-fitting work begins.
➤ After press-fitting is finished, the light curtain is turned off and the worker takes out the workpiece.
Problems
➤ The process did not stop immediately while in operation even when the worker's hand crossed the light curtain.
➤ The reaction time from crossing the light curtain until the machine stops was 0.3 seconds, leaving the chance of an injury.
After Improvement
Improved Equipment
✪ The air cylinder has been replaced by an ELECYLINDER.
Improvements
✪ The reaction time from crossing the light curtain until the
machine stops has become much faster; only 0.1 seconds
✪ Even if the worker stretches his hand by mistake, the machine stops before the hand reaches it, totally eliminating the danger of an injury.
✪ The reaction time from crossing the light curtain until the machine stops has been shortened.
✪ The machine stops without fail before the hand reaches the machine, solving the safety issue.
